GUESS… where a lithe bare chested man greats your arrival.
GUESS...where a men’s only secret society strutted around in fabulous robes and hats.
GUESS…where the preeminent collection of post 1990 art is located.
GUESS… where the best pancakes in Los Angeles are?
GUESS… where SAGA Los Angeles is visiting June 16th.
GUESS makes it all possible! SAGA LA will visit the Marciano Art Foundation (MAF) on Saturday June 16th at 11:00 am. For those unfamiliar with this newer museum. MAF was established by Maurice and Paul Marciano, the founders of Guess, to grant the public access to the Marciano Art Collection housed in the repurposed Scottish Rites Temple on Wilshire Boulevard in Hancock Park.
The collection contains works by well-established, mid-career and emerging artists, predominantly from the 1990s to present. It is their hope that the public will be inspired to appreciate and engage in the transformative power of contemporary art.
Long before Hollywood existed, Masons were staging elaborate costumed rituals in front of fantastical painted backdrops. Indeed, many of the film industry’s early pioneers, including Cecil B. DeMille, Louis B. Mayer, Darryl F. Zanuck, and Walt Disney, were Masons. Information regarding the Masons secret staging of Scottish Rite rituals, wardrobes, props, and backdrops have also been preserved and are displayed at this museum.
Our group is limited to 11 people for an 11:00 am admission. The MAF is located at 4357 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. More information is available at www.marcianoartfoundation.org.
People can meet for an optional pre-museum breakfast around 10:00 am at Dupar’s in the Farmer’s Market located at the intersection of Beverly and Fairfax about 2 miles from MAF. Dupar’s has by far the best pancakes in Los Angeles.
