SAGA had five caravan trips scheduled rip for this promising ski season, with three remaining. All Mammoth trips include double occupancy lodging at 1849 Condominiums, conveniently located across from Canyon Lodge, which makes getting to the slopes easy. Details of the trips vary, and are described below. Transportation is not included, and we do not provide lift tickets for Mammoth as many of our members have season passes. Past seasons have found discount tickets available ahead of time from Mammoth Mountain online, through a friend who has a season pass, or at Costco warehouse stores.
This year we are offering a break from the Saturday crowds and noise on the slopes on our Elevation trip by offering an optional hook up for Cross Country Skiing at Tamarack in Mammoth Lakes Basin.
The best way to truly experience the serene beauty of Mammoth Lakes in winter is go cross country skiing. Join SAGA members on Saturday 3/17 for a day of XC skiing on groomed trails at Tamarack and take a break from the noise and crowds on the slopes. We'll meet at the Tamarack XC ski center at 9:00am. Tamarack is about a 15 minutes drive from the center of town, and can also be reached by the Orange bus line, which drops visitors right in front of the Lodge. All necessary XC ski rentals are available at the Tamarack ski center. The cost of the all day trail pass is $29 (discount available for Mammoth season pass holders). The ski rental desk opens at 8:30am, their phone 760 934 2442 x8
Our tour will take us up into the Lake George and Coldwater/Duck Pass Loops. Depending on snow conditions we might stop and visit theMammoth Consolidated Mine historic site, a beautiful scene in winter, containing the original miners' bunkhouses and other remains of the gold mine that was active in the late 1920s. Total distance for our tour is about 10 miles with about 400 feet of elevation gain. Participants should bring a lunch or snack and two quarts of water in the knapsacks for this backcountry adventure. We'll return to cars around 2:30pm. Many of us will stay afterward for aprés-ski drinks and socializing in the bar at the historic Tamarack Lodge
Not on this trip, but want to join the group for the two cocktail and dinner parties at 1849 on Friday and Saturday evening? This year we are offering an option for those who want to join us for dinners and cocktails. Telluride Gay Ski Week, February 26 - March 3, 2018 (Monday to Saturday)
In the heart of the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, the Victorian era town of Telluride rests at the bottom of a valley at 8,750 feet. The ski lifts and gondola bring skiers from the center of town to the center of the ski resort and mountain Village at 9,500 feet. Surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks, the ski area boasts over 3,500 vertical feet, over 80 runs for all abilities and a high-speed lift system.
This scenic 1800's mining town is linked by a free, 'til- midnight gondola to a modern faux-European ski village. The town and the ski week are more intimate than Aspen. The scenery is spectacular and access to the slopes is very convenient: Excellent variety of runs, parties, guys & restaurants!
We will be staying in three bedroom units at the Riverside Condos, in downtown Telluride with lots of shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. The town lift (#8) and free late night gondola to the upper village are just a short walk along the river from our condos.
Cost is $750 for five nights lodging (Monday evening through Saturday morning). Transportation, shuttles, meals and lifts are not included. Note that Telluride is part of the Mountain Collective so if you have a Mammoth California Premium pass, you can get discounted lift tickets.
